Lions Club Donation

Thank you to Westerly Lins Club for their $250 donation. I have a few events scheduled for the up coming cycling season and am looking forward to making an impact on our children and parents.

Here is a few pictures from State Street Healthy Kids day in March 2010. 35 helmets donated, parents were educated and children inspired.

Thank you to Mystic Marriott Hotel. Not only is it a wonderful experience every time I go there, but they have show such generosity to HABS. $500. donation:)

I will be handing out helmets and sharing my story on Dec 5th in Groton CT at the tree lighting. Rout 1 in the Bennies plaza.

It was the perfect day. The weather was on our side and 50 FABULOUS riders came to show their support. Thank you so much to Jeremy Powers and Mystic Merriott for doing this ride for HABS. I was so sad as I drove off after knowing it was over. Thank you to my dear friend Mardy who helped me with my hand outs.

I could not do any of this with out the help of kind, thoughtful and generous people like all of these folks.

I am so appreciative.

Christmas is coming and there will be many more helmets to give away.

Jeremy powers is coming to town. Take a ride with Jeremy on November 8th at 10 a.m. Registration starts at 8. $20 entry fee includes donation to HABS, T Shirt for first 100 cyclists.

A few weeks back, I received an e mail from Millstone. they kindly and generously donated 200 helmets to HABS.

The Holidays are coming and I am looking for the opportunities.

There is a child out there for every helmet. a Family in need of my story. Are you one of them????? Are you an organization, Chamber or business that is donating bikes to families that need them?????

I am looking for my opportunity to donate, inspire and make a difference in these families live.

To the left are dear friends, Barbara and Clark. Both are Westerly Rotary Club Members. Clark is the president. A beautiful book was donated on behalf of HABS to the Westerly Library. The Rotary Club has shown great support in the past and continues to with it's generosity.

To the right is the manager and staff of California Pizza Kitchen in Fox Woods casino, handing me the check from the fund raiser we had a few months back.

Groton Block Party

I have given away many helmets, but never as many as this event in one day!

Thanks to the help of Safe Kids of New London County (Thank you Esther) , Groton Police department, Mystic Velos and my new friend Melissa, we educated and donated almost 90 helmets in one event!

Parents received helmets too! Great job leading by example:)

We discussed the effects of brain injuries, how a helmet should fit and the importance of following the rules of the road.

I am so proud to be a part of a community that cares so much about the children. We are so fortunate to have such wonderful and caring adults in our immediate areas.

As for the mystic Velos, GO GIRLS! you rock! What a wonderful team to be a part of.

Hopefully a few of us will be doing a 2 day race in New Hampshire together:)

Family Safety fair...

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to everyone that helped. The kids had fun and so did the adults:) Stop and Shop was so supportive as well as all my partners in crime: (People's United Bank, Mystic Chamber, Mystic Cycle, The Stonington Police station and Thank you for the smoke house Pawcatuck Fire department)

We made a difference, showed these families that the community DOES care about their children and reinforced the importance of wearing a bike helmet......

Saturday July 11th. OVER 100 helmets YA!!!!

Hi everyone,

This weekend is the big weekend:)

I have over 100 helmets to give away and hope to see you all there. PLEASE ride your bikes, wear your helmets and show the kids how COOL cyclists REALLY are! I know we are...... Gear up and really WOW them.

Together we can move towards a SAFER and HEALTHIER future generation.

The event is being held at the new Stop and Shop on Voluntown RD in Stonington CT, from 11-2 on July 11th.

Just a reminder that we are having a GREAT Family Safety fair on July 11th. This fair will be located at the new Stop and Shop in Stonington CT on 91 Voluntown RD. For more information, please do not hesitate to e mail me at h.a.b.s@cox.net.

Bring your helmet and get them sized. Don't have one? I will gladly be donating childrens' helmets to the kids that need them.

Come learn bike safety, beach safety, fire safety and have lunch on us! There will be face painting too. GREAT family activity. From 11-2 p.m.

Time Trials

I did my first time trial on Thursday evening. I accomplished a 10k in 19.3 minutes. Lets see how I do next week..... It was fun and challenging. Thank you to the guys that road around with me after. I have to say, I have met great people since I joined Pequot Cycling Club. I have my first race on the 12th in New Britain. Hope to see you there. I'll post some pics:)

HILLS! HILLS! HILLS!

So when I joined Mystic Velo cycling team, I did not expect the hills:) kidding.... I have to tell you, We did about 12 miles of hills. It was so fun and what a work out. Who says you can't have fun and have a hard work out? That person never trained with this team:)

Tonight I'm attempting my first Crit practice. We'll see how it goes.

I Joined a Team!!!!!!!

It is official, I am completely hooked on riding:) After meeting a great group of woman cyclists, I decided to join the Mystic Velo team. YA!!!! I start my training this week. Hills, Hills, and more hills. All you boys that left me behind last ride through Black point, WATCH OUT!!!!!!!! LOL... seriously, I am going to kick your butts:)

I will be doing my first race on Sunday:) see you there.

Family Safety Fair Volunteers needed!!!

Hi everyone. I have a very fun family fair coming up in July. This event will put many of those wonderful donations that people have been making to HABS. There will be many children there. All of yours I hope... This event will have face painting, obstacle courses for bike riding, bike safety checks , fire trucks and OF COURSE, HELMETS!!!!!

The event will be from 11-2 on July 11th. Please join us. I encourage adults to ride their bikes there and lead by example for all the kids. Helmets required of course:)

If you are interested in assisting me, it would be MUCH appreciated. I encourage you to be there to see what i see every time. Those faces.....

If your child has a helmet please bring it to be fitted properly by police officers.

I had the best day today!

I joined the pequot Cycling Club. What a great group of people. I did not take any pics however:( We road 26 miles. LOTS of hills!!!! My butt was on FIRE! Great ride, Great people. If your looking for a club it is a MUST join:)

Here's a picture of me and Safe Kids teaching Niantic CT elementary school kids about helmet and bike safety. GREAT class. They surrounded me after to ask me about my helmet and accident. It is so nice to be able to make a difference and influence our next generation.

I have 2 fairs scheduled for helmet give a ways:

July 11th at Pawcatuck CT Stop and Shop on Rout 2, also, July 17th on the Groton Sub base, a block party for kids.

I took a great ride today. It felt so nice to ride. The fear is slowly disappearing. I was however very cautious while going through intersections.

Thank you everyone at Angle ride for allow me to be apart of your day.

It was an honor to be apart of it.

Those of you who were not there, you missed an amazing moment. Hundreds of people coming together to share a common goal. Riders who road through all extremes! It was amazing. I wish I could have done it! maybe next year.

I took my 3rd ride the day after. it was very emotional. I cried as i road by the intersection of my accident. I MADE myself do it though. I believe it will get easier the more I do it!

The love for the ride is what keeps me going.

Don't forget the fund raiser on JUNE 16th at California Pizza in Fox Woods Casino. All day. 20% of sales goes to HABS. We have a safety fair scheduled at Stop and Shop in Pawcatuck CT on the 11th of July. We will be giving helmets to kids that need them. Please show your support and join us for dinner.
